Chanel announced its return to China, and its 2024 Cruise series will be held in Shenzhen in November this year. This is another piece of news that shows the brand's emphasis on the Chinese market after Chanel held its annual Métiers d'Art show in Shanghai last May, showing China's growing influence in the global fashion industry. Shenzhen is the "design, innovation and high-tech capital of China" and the city has rapidly transformed from a fishing village into the epitome of China's "Silicon Valley" with a population of 13 million. According to Forbes, Shenzhen ranks eighth among cities in the world with the most billionaires, surpassing Singapore and second only to Mumbai. With its new status as a global technology hub, Shenzhen is extremely attractive to luxury brands looking to expand their retail networks and reach affluent consumers with high purchasing power. Since Chanel opened its first boutique in Nanshan District, Shenzhen in December 2021, it has already had a place in the city. The French luxury brand operates more than 15 boutiques in China, including two dedicated shoe boutiques. With Chinese consumers spending more on luxury goods domestically than ever before, luxury brands are looking to showcase their collections in China and establish their pivot in the local market. Prada showed its 2022-2023 autumn and winter collection in Beijing last year, while Louis Vuitton held its 2023 spring and summer men's wear conference on the Gold Coast of Aranya. The return of Zunrong fashion brand to China marks the re-emergence of China as an important market for luxury brands in the post-epidemic era.
